I think this is a dumb question, of course not, animals are just that, animals. They were put here in this world to serve men and most of them to be food for men. I believe the better question is, do we as civilized human beings have a moral obligation to put laws in place that will protect animals from being mistreated, neglected, or harmed? Well then, the answer is yes. But let’s not get carried away with it and try to make animals equal to humans. Animals are just animals and humans have domain over them. Lets keep like that.

I think that animals should have a rights to protect them again game hunting, abuse, neglect, and mistreatment however i do think that animals that are hunted/killed for food, clothing like the Native Americans hunted the buffalo there's nothing wrong with that. Lions hunt antelope because they have to eat. humans yes have other options on what they can eat however they shouldnt be fought against for wanting to eat beef. i dont support animal cruelty but i do love eating food that had parents. :)

Animals are here to provide food for us BUT this doesn't mean people should abuse them or kill them for entertainment. Like I said before it's all about money. Should animals have rights? All living things should have some rights but don't take it to far. It's sad you see food wasted everyday especially at buffet places, we as people need to respect our food. All animals should be treated right even though it's going to be slaughtered. Maybe we should start to hunt and kill our own food, and go back to sowing and plowing our vegetables also.

From the beginning of time, animals have been an important part of survival this still rings true today. Animals are the main source of our food and without eating these types of things there wouldn't be much in our diet. I believe animals serve their purpose on this earth to be eaten. We definitely shouldn't allow people to neglect or mistreat animals but at the end of the day animals aren't people. They don't have feelings and intellect like people do, so we shouldn't feel evil when we eat a steak or drink some milk.

No, I don’t believe animals have rights. Because animals are animals, they are here to provide food for survival. Animals have their purpose here on earth and provide us with many benefits besides food, like in the past they use their fur for clothing, finding cures, and provide entertainment. But with this in mind, there should be laws concerning animal cruelty and animal behavior.

The question posed is do animals have or should be given rights. Is it that they suffer and inhabit the world that we should grant them rights similar to those we grant to humans. In the video, the argument was made in video and speech that equated the wrongs of the past in racism, women's sufferage, slavery and what the Nazis did as somehow equateable to our treatment of animals. There is an intelligent argument made that compasion and kindness should be shown to animals. Cruelty should be beneath our sense of morality. But what rights do we extend to such creatures? Does it make sense to allow them preferencial treatment and let them walk through our streets hindering commerce and traffic like in India? Do we allow them access to our churches and homes like the baboons in Southeast Asia? Do we forgot the eating of animals all together and live like the Buddists and strive to not hurt a living thing? If these are the choices we end up making, is it then our right to impose this belief and lifestyle on others? Does it match up even with our own biology and evolution? In this I say no! While animals should be respected and cared for humanely,we should not suppose that they have quite the same "rights" as Humans. For our needs they are beasts of burden. No one raises an eyebrow at someone riding a horse, or a dog owner having a dog scare up Phesant. Our relationships with other animals has always been one of need. Our needs! So again, while animals should be treated as humanely as possible, they are a resource that should be used and protected even if it means that some are killed as food.

Animal rights are a touchy subject but an important one. I feel that they do have rights, but rights with limitations. I agree that we can not justify an animal voting or doing things that a human can. But with that said, they can feel pain if you harm them, therefore they should have the right to be protected from abuse. I think that its wrong to torture animals by things such as cock fighting and killing animals for accessories such as coats. But I enjoy eating meat and having dairy. Even if I stop eating meat, it wont stop bigger animals from eating smaller animals. So in conclusion, I believe that animals should only have the right to be protected from being mistreated and abused.

Sigh.............wow! All I can say is ''W O W''... to all the people who have such cold hearts on this discussion board! I'm disgusted by what I have read! Anyone who can watch that video and be okay with it.......isn't right in the head! I couldn't even get half way thru it...((No, it wasn't a PETA video, but just about as bad)) Yes, we eat meat, but the torturous treatment of a baby calf.....JUST TO MAKE VEAL is barbarically wrong! THAT is what I consider to be overboard! Scientific testing on animals is WRONG! How they can get proper results with 100% accuracy using animals instead of a human is ridiculous! It is unexceptionable to purposely harm any living, breathing, thinking, intelligent life form! To think that animals are just animals is the MOST ignorant thing I have ever heard! We are animals as well! HUMAN animals. I'm done.............

I think the questions does an animals have rights goes a long with the same lines as Prisoners of war.Humans and animals have the same Natural Rights. We have the right to be born, and to die. That it is,Every other so-called Right is probably something to help maintain social structure.Kind of how we choose to kill humans.Sodium Pentathol(Prob. spelled wrong) is said to hurt you while you are unable to move or do anything yet we still use it as the most "Humane" way of killing someone.I am sorry but the most humane way to kill anything is quickly. We shouldnt let the animals suffer greater then we would ourselves.Happy cows produce more milk,And who knows if a chicken even has the brain capacity to understand it is happy and not just hungry.

I believe animals do have rights. I think there should be laws that prevent animals from being tortured, and abused. Animals have played one of the most crucial parts to our survival, from food, to fur, weapons, carving objects etc... I don't think that people who eat meat are wrong because at the end of the day it's really about survival.

Animal rights for me is a fifty, fifty dilemma. I do think all cats, dogs, birds, etc have rights in this country. Then its a question of giving an animal to much rights of medical and financial attention. This is where it begins to be out of context and out of my income. In addition, I am for animal rights when it comes to protecting the animals from danger and malnutrition. Animals need to be protected from underground dog fights and starvation. The roles and responsibilites of an animal are to clean, exercise and feed is all I know.
