I understand religion to be defined like the words gay, fly, and patient. Gay because it can mean extremely happy or homosexual. Fly because it can mean the insect or the action. Patient because depending on person, if two people are in the same situation, one may be exercising their patience more than the other. I see religion in the same way. It depends on the perception of the person to define it.
My view is that religion is the way one understands how everything is and how one should be in that is. Whether you believe in God or science it is your understanding of how everything is no matter what your religion, or beliefs, or thoughts are you still have an understanding. Then how one should be in the sense that that understanding of how the world is influences how you are.
For example of being a Christian you may see God created the world and you have to follow the example of His son Jesus Christ so you try to act like he did. Or if you believe in science and big bang theory you believe how the world was created and see what decisions to govern your human body in that understanding of how things are is best for you. In the case of organized religion I feel that understanding how it is… i.e. God created the world and we follow Him and he has a church set up. If that is your understanding then that is what you do by getting together with others according to that understanding. So for me I define religion as “the way one understands how everything is and how one should be in that is”.
It's an organized set of philosophy, symbolism, dogma, and ceremony/ritual, designed for personal use.
The ceremony and symbolism parts distinguish religions from mere philosophies (note that Buddhism is still a religion using this definition -- hell yeah, non-theistic religions exist). And the dogma part distinguishes religion from lodges (note that the Boy Scouts are not a religion by my definition). Also, note that one can be theistic without adhering to a particular religion.
Religion is a great topic to talk about because nobody can come to the same conculsion. Its make people talk about what religion means to them and different cultures are all different. I think if have all the samething in common we will be boring. This topic makes us changelle eacht other when it comes to religion and explore our thoughts.
My definition of religion is the individualistic beliefs and practices of a person or group used to guide them through their destiny. Religion provides people with a purpose and often helps define the ways of the universe. The world in which we live in is often too much for someone to grasp so they put their beliefs and hesitations into spirituality in order to accept the concepts of the universe. God gives people a relationship filled with trust and a sense of belonging without passing judgment.
For me religion is a group, colt, or someones perceptions view of how they see the world. Due to the many things we experience we have many questions about ourselves, our destiny and or our life. what makes it worthwhile to take on the challenges we face in life, why is it that religion has many good stories, music, chants or detoxification that makes an individual see life as something precious. It's these methods that inspire one another to see world in a different view, something thatmany don't see due to survival. Religion can due wonders for some but can also be mislead and can become something evil and dipicaple. Religion is simply perception of a structure of beliefs, no disrespect to others beliefs. People have seen and experienced miracles and others have still hope for a miracle.
What is Religion? Religion is a hard subject to define because there are many different types of religions and they have such vast variations. I believe religion is an important part of life. People use religion to define the things in life we can’t explain. We use these definitions to discuss these unsolved issues. When religion looks at the unexplainable, they all seem to develop rules and guidelines for life that go along with their philosophies. When looking at the different types of Abrahamic religions we see they all are monotheism beliefs. In these religions they use a singular god to explain the origin of life. Through these explanations they establish moral codes that they use to guide them through the path of life. When looking at Buddhism we see them explain what happens when we die. Buddhists believe in reincarnation. Through this belief they establish ethics. These ethics guides them through this life and on to the next. Humankind has tried to explain our existence since the beginning of time. Without a reason for existence and some form of personal purpose we will find a void in our lives. I believe religion fills this void. Religion is needed just as love is needed. People can live without both of these things but they will end up feeling empty and hollow. Whether we use Christianity, Buddhism, Wicca or Hinduism we all need something to clarify this complex world we live in. I call these explanations religion.
the way i understand religion, it is a ritual that one does to bring praise to a superior being. also it is another way to understand the existence of humans and the world we live in and how everything became what it is today.
Religion is what ever you think it may mean to you. Religion has been around for centuries. There are so many religions to choose from. Some forms of religion in my opinion are like cults nothing to do with god. Some people believe in objects, spirits, other beings. There is no true evidence I think there is a God. I choose to believe that there is God because that is the way I was raised. There are some many religions to choose from. I think if one is unsure you should study them all and go with the one that best fits your life style.
What is religion? Religion is set of beliefs, ideas of a higher power; that an individual adapt to their lives, for the overall betterment of life and the society they associate themselves with. Personally I think religion is anything that helps a person fills closer to a god, higher power, or even the elements, like some pagan religions worship the element like they are a higher power, yet with the type of worship they practice they are content and happy, this type bring the closer to a god, just like how a catholic would fill when they pray. That just goes to show religion is whatever you fill brings you closer the too whatever a person believes that god higher power.

Religion, like many words, have so many automatic thought bubbles trailing behind it, like tattered ribbon. It’s almost fallen to pieces, but is somehow clinging after all this time. This knotted ribbon of thought provokes emotion and action, even when there was no intentional thought process tagged on. We as humans don’t need one, we create our own, these thought bubbles. We hear the word religion, and depending on what region of planet Earth one resides, we usually have something to say before anyone else has time to elaborate. Those raised in Western culture usually imagine a male figure we call God. He didn’t create Himself, but nothing else created Him either. He isn’t anywhere you can find proof of Him, but He is said to be everywhere. This, generally to the average Westerner, is what one thinks of when religion is spoken of. Though this is unjustified. Where in Webster’s wonderful world of words does religion mean God? Religion, stripped clean of preemptive thought processes, is a way to live; a guideline for self determined morals if you will. These morals change depending on the person, but this in no way diminishes its definition. Religion is something people wake up for. An education attained by choice (ideally), through which one learns things they believe will better them in the long run. Whether the long run extends to the end of the street or the end of time, is irrelevant. Also, goodness is not necessary to have religion. Satanism for instance (I discovered upon reading the Satanic Bible) is not actually centered around worshipping the Devil, but oneself. Though, things often thought by the masses as immoral, are judged as righteous doings. Much like a raw humanist, the Satanist believes if it is desired, it is justified. Whatever it is. This belief is a religious one through and through. Upon further thought, spirituality is not truly necessary for religious behavior. Merely creating a habit of some sort may be referred to as a religious one, if done frequently enough. This repetitive nature and all encompassing dedication is what religion is about. Perseverance and attaining knowledge and (without misusing the word) enlightenment are the required components feeding the tree in which the word religion resides under.

Religion is a way of life in which one abides by certain guidelines and customs passed on from one generation to the next.
