"Global" Responsibility (11)

Please read the article (link in title) and discuss where responsibility for global issues such as oceanic acidity, declining species, adn global warming lies. Is it at the individual, regional, national, or international level (or none or all of the above)?

The Earth, it's inhabitants and the environment have all been concerns of almost everyone. How to become more "green" is the new phase of culture and it is something that has taken a long time to come around. It is my opinion that preserving our Earth is something that is everyone's responsibility. Other entities such as major corporations can make more of a difference then say me recycling all of my aluminum cans, but that does not mean that I do not have a personal responsibility to do such a thing. Every time I read or hear of a story that talks about how our environment is becoming more volatile and less friendly I think of the movie "The Day After Tomorrow". For those who have not seen the movie, the Earth "resets" itself and sends the entire Earth into an ice age that destroys everything we know and have become acclamated with. All of the big corporations and conglomerates that are dumping toxic waste into the oceans, or even burying it are polluting our environment just to save money. Everyone needs to do their part in saving and preserving our world and try to find a more energy and friendly way of running our necessities of life. It is up in the air how much more our environment can take before it becomes inhabitable, but I hope that something can and will be done. There are a lot of companies and people that are taking responsibility already. Car companies are releasing hybrid vehicles, companies are using solar power and some are incinerating their waste. All these things are making a difference, there are just some that need to get on the bandwagon. Others on an individual standpoint are recycling more, using less water, and also using solar power. Commuting is another thing that is making a difference. The more exhaust that we pump into the air, the more dangerous the air will become. So I think it is safe to say that responsibility is being taken, it just needs to be taken to the next level.

The responsibility for the global issues lies in every single person that can call the planet earth home whether it is considered on a regional, national or international level. We are all at fault on some level as individuals when we liter, don’t recycle, or utilize alternative resources, drive vehicles non-stop which fill the earth’s atmosphere with pounds of carbon daily, etc. The facts have always been out there and many people simply refuse to acknowledge them. As recently as 2005 global warming was deemed as purely emotional, a conspiracy theory and flat out untrue depicted in Al Gore’s movie, Inconvenient Truth. In regards to the higher levels that actually obtain authority on the subject there is absolutely no responsibility shown that should be there. The American dollar holds an immense amount of value in our society, so as long as the rich and the powerful rule and are not affected directly by global warming a continuation of support will stay behind all of those companies that pollute and contribute greatly to the issue(Exxon Mobile, Coca Cola). Ultimately responsibility is on all of the above to reach a consensus and start contributing significantly to the problem we are all causing before it is too little, too late. Some need to be educated on how to implement a “green” lifestyle; others need to stop acting out fear that their money will be jeopardized. What importance will money have if we have no earth to live on?

Ultimately, the responsibility for our planetary ecology lies with everyone – we are all free to make decisions regarding our personal impact on the ecology. Every time we get into our cars, we are deciding that our need is greater than our impact, that our want trumps the future. While one person individually does not make that great of an impact, each person adds to our planet's ecological problems daily.

Individual personal decisions, however, are not solely to blame; in many cases, bureaucracy, corporate inertia, greed and ignorance are just as guilty of placing this burden on our ecology. Large corporations waste and pollute without regard for consequence – not because they want to see the planet's ecosystem deteriorate, but because the people in authority have to serve the interests of the corporation. My sociology class was invited to attend a Community Action meeting regarding one of several EPA Superfund cleanup sites in the Valley of the Sun. No one thinks for a minute that there was a single person at Motorola who said to himself “I want to pollute a three-mile long stretch of land in southeast Phoenix”, cackling manically while his Evil Master Plan came to fruition – a group of normal people were faced with a seemingly innocuous series of decisions over a long time, and made choices that as a group they felt were best for the company.

We have heard for years about the dangers faced by our planet, yet we still depend on the same fossil fuels our grandparents did, spewing the same toxic muck into our planet's atmosphere, water and ground. The only difference is that we should know better. We make our own decisions, right or wrong, and it's the responsibility of every person to do what they can to correct the problem.

I believe it is the responsibility of everyone in the world to do their part in taking care of the world. The individual should be aware of what their actions do to the world and work on ways to reduce waste. A region or state should implement programs, encouraging people to do the right thing and to educate the people around them. A nation should fund research and technology that will help their nation thrive in a more healthy way (for both the people they serve and the country around them). They should also enforce rules and laws created to conserve and eliminate waste. As far as international (if they realistically could agree on anything in a reasonable amount of time) they should have a committee of representatives to create world codes and to enforce them. The reason everyone is responsible is because pollution, global warming and all the environmental issues effects everyone.

I believe that it is everyone's responsibility to take care of the Earth. We all need to stop and think about what we are doing and how is affects the environment, because no matter what everything we do will affect everyone someday it may not have an immediate affect but after time it will.
I wish there was a way that all the countries could agree on the same rules and regulations about waste and dumping of hazardous substances, but it will never happen cause it seems that no matter what we decide someone just won't agree.
I know that some work places have tried to help the environment by providing recycling bins, and this is a start to help the environment I just wish everyone could get on the same page and help out the environment cause us and our loved one not only in the near future but also in many years to come are the ones that will have to deal with the affects that our polluting has affected the air we breath, the water we drink, the soil that we grow our crops in, and the grass and crops that we feed to the animals that we eat. So we all need to take a little responsible and start to live a little more "GREEN".

Global responsiblity is something that is very important to any body in the world, we all need to preserve our enviroment. However it is difficult to make eveybody take care of it. There are some big companies that are producing so much waste to the air and to the ocean. it is very easy to point finger to the big cooperation but they are producing what they are producing because of our demand. We need certain thing and for them to meet our demand they have to manufacture those things and to producing them it produces waste too with them. Therefore for us to keep our enviroment safe we need to choose betwween what we need and what we want, because where there are no buyers there are no sellers. There is always a debate about the global warming and i do a gree with it, there might be a global warming coming but it is not easy to turn this a round like we want it to be. we can recycle all we want and do all those thing that we thought might help and don't take me wrong i am not anti recyling but it is just a portion of abroader problem. To fix this problem completely we need to get ride of they want like cars, machines, computers, aeroplanes and just anything that can cause problem to the evironment and back to the basic things riding horses again and those thing that are little safer to the environment. i am not trying to be weir or any thing like that, but i am stating the fact. However despite this i encourage everybody to try to do their part to safe our world from become a wasteful inhibitant.

I do believe that global issues are all of our responsibilities has a human being on earth. It is a known fact that changes on earth are due to years and years of human related problems. Such as driving cars which pollute the air, or choosing not to recycle properly. some states still arent "going green". Ive been place where people still throw there trash directly on the ground when they are finished in hopes of the wind carrying it away to an unknown destination. Just as on should take care of their body so they dont go fallen ill; its the exact same way when cleaning up our environment. If we help destroy earth than of course certain changes will take place....global warming, acidity in the ocean, soil being polluted all of these things can be brought down to a minimum. I can certaintly remember being introduced to recycling almost 11 years ago and teachers was telling students than about what could possibkybe in the year2000. Well, we are eight years past 2000 and yet, we still have environmental problems. It is up to us to help keep mother nature happy

I believe the earth is the life of human. We need the earth in order to survive. Human are everywhere, no matter what regions, therefore, we should all be involved and concerned on the world as one. Reality is, is that if one part of the region is helped, and the other part is getting trashed, at some point they will meet in between and not find anything in common. People must care about the environment and truly understand the dangers and how to care for it. Just educating one might not do the job. Maybe show them personally what dirty water is like, take away the necessities of surviving and show them how important it is. But in reality, this is less likely to happen.
